What is a devisee?

A devisee is a person who has been designated to receive a specific piece of property, typically real estate, through a will. The devisee is the individual who is chosen by the testator (the person making the will) to inherit a specific asset or assets upon the testator's death.

The devisee may be a family member, friend, or organization, and they are entitled to the property that has been specifically mentioned in the will. The terms of the devise are outlined in the will, including the exact property being transferred, any conditions or stipulations attached to the devise, and the timing of the transfer.

It is important for the testator to clearly identify the devisee and the property being devised in the will to ensure that their wishes are carried out as intended. If the devisee predeceases the testator or is unable or unwilling to accept the devise, alternate provisions may be made in the will to designate a different recipient for the property.
